Google Adsense| Article #105 :THE RECENT GOOGLE SHAKEUP

For those of you who have been using Google Adwords for a while to promote your own site or an affiliate program, you have probably noticed that the number of impressions you've been getting per day has taken a big hit, along with the hits themselves. The worst part about all this is that when it happens, Google doesn't give you much of an idea why.

The first explanation is a very vague "we want the user to have a good experience with their visit to your site" form letter. We're left there scratching our head wondering just what that means. All we know is that our keywords that used to cost us 7 cents a click now cost us 40 cents a click. What happened? My site didn't change. The keyword didn't change. So what did? Why was my site and keyword a high quality last week and this week I can't even get a click?

The honest truth is, all the people who are coming up with all these "reasons" for your lack of clicks and "cures" for the problem, are just grasping at straws. Why? Because Google themselves won't give us any information that makes any sense. In other words, there is no definitive "this is the problem and this is how you fix it" coming from Google. Until that time comes, any attempt to fix the problem is just guesswork.

Does that mean we just throw our arms up in the air and give up?

No. There is something we can do about it. It's not a solution to the problem but it's a way to deal with it.

The first thing we have to do is listen to the suggestions, such as improving our landing pages by throwing more content on them. We need to give our visitors the best experience we can when they visit our site. It doesn't necessarily guarantee that we'll get any more visitors from our PPC campaign but it's a start.

The next thing we have to do is seek other PPC alternatives. There are a number of PPC sites out there that are good. They may not give you the amount of traffic that Google gave you when it was working but it will at least give you something. Considering your Google campaign is all but shut down, you have nothing to lose.

Finally, you can look into alternative means of advertising. There are a number of ways to advertise on the Internet. Many of them are actually more productive than PPC.
