Beat Your Competition| Article #135 :5 WAYS TO KILL YOUR COMPETITION – PT 3

The 3rd way to really put the screws to your competition is to create an ad directory for your customers. If you have my Honest Income Program then you already know that I have done just this. The idea was actually a work of genius and a way to get people to buy the books but also get them to promote it.

Rather than try to give you some step by step approach to how to do something like this, I’ll just give you the exact steps that I took to market this, create it and exploit it. Then you can see what a powerful tool this is.

Step 1 – I started to pre-advertise the idea. In other words, even thought I didn’t yet have the directory, I made it known to the entire Internet population that I was going to come out with one. I hinted around in forums, on message boards, everywhere I could where people talked.

Step 2 – I then put up a page with how the actual idea would work. I listed all the terms and conditions of how to get into the directory.

Okay, this is where I will have to stop and give you a little bit of advice if you’re going to do this.

You want the directory to be a quality directory. Unfortunately, there is a lot of junk on the Internet. I don’t have to tell you what it is. So I suggest you make restrictions on the kind of ads that you put in your directory, such as no porn, warez, illegal, etc. Also, because you don’t want a whole bunch of people promoting the same affiliate program or product, which many times happens when something new comes out, you should stipulate that the ad placed MUST be for their own web site and NOT for an affiliate site. Sure, this is going to eliminate some people who do affiliate marketing only, but you don’t want your ad directory to turn into a junk yard where everybody just dumps their trash.

Step 3 – Start taking advance orders for the directory. What I did was give people 2 options. They could pay for an ad or they could sell X number of copies of my package to get their site into the directory.
NOTE: The above is a GREAT way to get people to promote your product for you. If they think that their ad is going to be seen by thousands of people, they are going to be psyched.

Step 4 – Actually put the directory together when you get enough people who have either paid for their ad or sold enough of your package. If you don’t have enough ads, then put your own ads. Find sites on the Internet and just promote them. Hey, you’re doing these people a favor.

By now, the news of your ad directory has spread like wild fire. Your competition is again scratching their collective heads and maybe even their behinds wondering what you’re up to.

So far, this strategy has been working very well for me. I haven’t exactly put anybody out of business, but I’ve sure gotten a lot of people talking about the Honest Income Program Ads Directory.
