Beat Your Competition| Article #138 :10 WAYS TO GET NEW PRODUCT IDEAS

As a marketer creating your own products, one of the hardest things to do is to come up with new product ideas, especially if you have already designed quite a few products. As you go along, coming up with these ideas get harder and harder. So what do you do? Well, hopefully, these 10 tips will at least give you something to go on.

1. The first and easiest way to get new product ideas is simply to go on the Internet and see what problems people are having. Once you've identified a problem, sit down and think about what you can do to solve the problem. The Internet is filled with problems. It shouldn't take you long to find something.

2. Trends occur constantly. One day it's Britney and the next day it's Whitney. In marketing, the latest thing is Bum Marketing. Find a way to capitalize on that. By following the hot trends, there is always a product just around the corner to go with that hot trend.

3. Another thing you can do is find a product that is currently out there and see what you can do to improve it. Yes, this will take a little imagination and research, but if you come up with something good, you can really blow the lid off the marketplace.

4. Another thing you can do is take an existing product that is only being used by a certain niche and introduce it to a new niche that might have some use for it. This will also take some research but once you've found it, you're in.

5. Taking an existing product and adding things to it is another great idea. For example, you can take the hottest baseball cards and maybe package them with a cap and ball or something else related. The mix and match possibilities are endless.

6. Maybe you have an old product laying around that people have forgotten about. There is no reason why you can't bring it back with just a few changes and additions.

7. Why not ask the current people on your mailing list what THEY want? You'd be surprised the ideas that people come up with if you just ask them. Just one suggestion could give you a whole new product idea.

8. Why not take two products and combine them into one? Yes, you would have to find two products that compliment each other, like a planner and a budgeter, but once you've done that, packaging should be easy enough.

9. If you have a web site, put up a survey. Ask your visitors what they would like to see come out. You may very well get some very good ideas.

10. And finally, why not take one of your existing products and find a new market for it? You may have to repackage it slightly or add something to it, but the changes should be minimal at most.

Hopefully, the above 10 items will give you some great new product ideas.
