In this article we’re going to dispel one of the biggest myths about ranking well with search engines. Many people feel that on page optimization is more important than off page. Meaning, what you do to your site is more important than the links that you get coming into your site. This is just not true.
And I’ll prove it.
If you go to Google and check the keyword phrase “click here” you will find that the number one site for that search term is Adobe. If you look at their site and check their title tag, keywords and even every word on their page, you will see that the words “click here’ don’t appear anywhere on their pages. So then how the heck can they rank number 1 for the phrase “click here” if they don’t even have that phrase anywhere on their page?
The answer is because of all the sites that link to them. If you go to all the pages that link to Adobe for that phrase, you will find that on each of these pages they have downloads and instruct people that if they need the Adobe reader to read these PDF downloads, to “click here” to get their free Adobe reader.
That is why Adobe ranks number 1 for that search term. There are so many sites that link into Adobe using that phrase that there is almost no way Adobe can’t be ranked number 1. Ironically, the sites that have that term aren’t ranked as high for that search term.
This is proof that off page optimization is more important than on page optimization, not that you shouldn’t make sure that your page is fully optimized. Every little bit helps.
Just so you know, SEO Elite will give you all of this information in a flash. Like I said, it’s not a cheap tool, but it’s worth every penny.
What about the inner web pages on your site? How do you get them to rank high? You do this through internal linking. In other words, every page on your site should be linked to at least one other page on your site.
Here’s an example of how to do this.
Let’s say you have a site on Golf tips. In the articles section you have an article that firsts talks about the basics of the game and the items needed, such as golf clubs, shoes, etc. During the course of the article, any time you hit a keyword, such as golf clubs, you should link that keyword to another article on your site on golf clubs. And then in THAT article you should link from it to another article on your site and so on.
It’s a little tricky doing this without it coming off as keyword stuffing, but if you do it smartly and write articles that run into each other, you’ll find that this will greatly help your search engine ranking.
By no means is what you’ve read in the last 14 articles the be all and end all to SEO. But this will get you started and certainly in the case of long tail keywords with fewer competing sites, get you up the search engine ranks quicker than you can possibly imagine.
