Writing Articles| Article #174 : ARTICLE WRITING – PART 7

Okay, let’s start with our subject now that we’ve read our 3 articles.

Remember what I said way back in the beginning about grabbing your reader by the throat? Well, in this case, doing it simply will grab him good enough.

Why?

Because you have to place yourself in the shoes of the person who is actually doing the research on this topic. Most people who are looking up “natural treatments for IBS” are probably IBS sufferers and in desperate need of relief. So seeing this title…

“Natural Treatments For IBS”

Will do it for them, in SPADES.

They’ll be heading for your article faster than a guy takes to a gal in a bikini on a hot summer day.

So personally, I would use that title. It has our keywords in it and says it all to the reader.

I know I haven’t touched on keywords yet, and I will in more detail later. For now, I just want to get you into the practice of writing articles. Keyword density and all that other good stuff can wait for now. Plus, I will explain a few things with each paragraph I write as to why it was written that way.

Okay, we have our article title.

The next thing we have to do is write our introduction. Remember, we want this to be about 100 words.

Let’s look at the introductions of the 3 articles we just read.
Do this now!

Okay did you notice what I noticed?

Each article had a completely different introduction.

The first one talked about how people don’t like to discuss colon problems etc.

The second one went right into what IBS is.

The third one went right to the natural treatments.

This is actually a perfect scenario for writing our article.

Why?

Remember, there isn’t a lot of info on natural treatments, so we have to expand this a bit. To do that, we need to talk more about what IBS is and the causes. That, we can pretty much get from article number 2. But I do like the introduction talking about how people don’t like to talk about colon problems.

Great! Let’s use the idea, not the words they used.

Put the article aside (no peaking) and try to remember what they talked about as far as the “stigma” of having IBS and colon problems.

Now think about some people who you might know who have IBS. Certainly this is no rare disease, so you must have a story to tell.

No? Then you can make one up. As long as you don’t give any incorrect facts about the disease itself, if you want to tell people about the time that your Aunt Bessie had to run for the bathroom and didn’t make it, fine. A little fiction, as long as it doesn’t distort the facts, is fine. Just don’t lie about things to do with the disease itself. And certainly keep the facts straight about the treatments.

Why?

If you tell somebody to do xyz when you should have told them to do abc, you could be opening yourself up to a lawsuit and a half. Just make sure your facts are straight.

Okay, this is the introduction that I came up with. Remember, we want to shoot for about 100 words.

Some things are easy to discuss like the weather. Then there are other things like irritable bowel syndrome, or what is more commonly referred to as IBS, that people just don’t want to talk about. You won’t have any problem getting your Uncle Joe to talk about his heart problems and how he has to take his pill each day, but get him to open up about how he suffers from IBS and you’d have a better shot at getting him to spill the nuclear launch codes. And as hard as IBS is to talk about, it’s even harder to treat. Fortunately, there are natural treatments for IBS that can actually relieve your symptoms and help you live a more normal life. I’ll share those treatments with you as well as some information as to what IBS is and what causes it.

Done.

Let’s do our word count…142 words…not bad. A little over, but that makes the rest of the article a little easier to write by 42 words.

Before we go on, let’s analyze this introduction.

Taking the concept of how people don’t like to talk about IBS, from article one, we put our own unique spin on it. We talked about how people can talk about the weather but not IBS. Then we talked about how your uncle will talk about his bad heart but not about his bad colon. Then we cleverly led into how as hard as it is to talk about IBS, it’s even harder to treat and then finished with telling people that there are natural treatments for IBS and that we’re going to tell them what those treatments are.

When you think about it, all we really said in this introduction that is relevant to the article itself is…(highlighted on the next page)

6 words.

We said 6 words of importance in our introduction. This is the main point of our article, that there are natural treatments for IBS. We could have said this is 6 words.

We took 142 to do it.

Are the lights starting to come on?

I hope so.

That’s all for now. In our next article, we’ll dive into the meat of the content.
