Writing Articles(2)| Article #178 : ARTICLE WRITING – PART 11
In this article we’re going to go over some advanced concepts starting with padding and keyword density.
Okay, what’s about to follow may get a little technical and you may not quite get it all at first. That’s okay. Over time, most of this is going to become intuitive. You’re going to narrow in on a topic or title and know JUST how to attack it. You’ll know all the tricks, which is basically what these advanced concepts are.
PADDING
If you get NOTHING else out of this whole book other than this one concept, then you will still probably be able to write an article that will at least be long enough to be submitted. It may not be a very good article, but it will be long.
What is padding?
I’ll give you an example and I think that will pretty much do it for you.
Read the following sentences.
I went to the store.
I went to the store to get a bottle of milk.
I went to the store with the brand new crisp 5 dollar bill mom gave me to get a bottle of milk.
I went to the store with the brand new crisp 5 dollar bill mom gave me to get a bottle of milk and a loaf of bread.
I went to the store with the brand new crisp 5 dollar bill mom gave me to get a bottle of milk and a loaf of bread when I saw my Aunt Sally walking her dog down the main street.
I think you got the idea.
We went from this…
I went to the store. (5 words)
To this…
I went to the store with the brand new crisp 5 dollar bill mom gave me to get a bottle of milk and a loaf of bread when I saw my Aunt Sally walking her dog down the main street. (40 words)
Do you realize what I’ve just done?
I took a 5 word piece of information and turned it into 40 words.
That’s almost half of our first paragraph.
NOW do you see how easy it is to write 500 words?
Don’t be afraid to use a lot of words. Words are not our enemies. They’re our friends.
KEYWORD DENSITY
This may seem like a foreign concept to many of you, especially if you’re just starting out. And a lot of books go into this long explanation about keyword density. Hogwash. I’m going to make this so simple that a 2 year old can understand it.
Whatever it is that you’re writing about, if you’re writing a 500 word article, then you want that keyword to appear in your article about 5 times. In other words, for every 100 words you want 1 occurrence of that keyword. Well, that makes it simple. Just have it appear in each of our paragraphs 1 time.
Now, you can have a keyword density of up to 15 occurrences for a 500 word article. That comes out to about 3%. But I wouldn’t go beyond that because you may end up getting penalized for what they call “keyword stuffing.”
Keyword stuffing is basically writing an article or putting up a web page that is nothing but keywords. There’s no real content. This was an attempt in the early days to get your article or page up to the top of the search engines. But today it doesn’t work because the search engines have caught on to this little game and so if they catch you doing it, you’re toast. Your article gets buried, your web page gets buried and ultimately, YOU get buried.
Don’t keyword stuff.
