Writing Advertisements| Article #191 : ADVANCED AD WRITING – PART 3
In this installment of advanced ad writing, we’re going to move into the meat of our ad and show you how to say the same thing in two completely different ways to people who are stuck in the rut of posting ads to FFA sites.
Watch and learn
The Personal Approach
I happen to know, because of the ad you posted, that you’re using FFA site submission as your source of advertising. If you’re wondering how I know this, it’s simple. I happen to own one of these same sites that you’re posting to, so I do know what I am talking about. What you need to know, and this is for your own good, is that these ads end up on pages that nobody goes to. Believe me, if anybody knows this, I do. That’s why you’re not having any success with your advertising. Nobody sees your ads.
Okay, we just told this person that we know what they’re doing and we informed them that it doesn’t work. Now we’re going to say the same thing in a rather in your face manner.
The In Your Face Approach
Look, I don’t normally like getting hostile with people but somebody’s gotta knock some sense into you before you go broke and end up on a street corner with dark glasses and a tin cup. You can add a monkey if you like. You’ll just have to pay for it out of the change you collect. Why am I so sure that’s where you’re headed? Because somehow you’ve yet to figure out that posting FFA ads to promote your site is about as effective as trying to get a suntan in the North Pole in the dead of winter. It’s just not possible. Posting FFA ads is a crock and all it’s going to get you is a ton of junk email that you can spend a few days deleting…
And we can go on and on. The key is to know when to stop beating up on the poor guy and get into the part where you offer him a solution to his problem.
I remember the first time I wrote an ad like this. While I made quite a few sales, and this was long before the days of the Rich Jerk, I also got a lot of emails from some pretty angry people. They didn’t like me speaking to them that way. Sure, you’re going to get people angry. But hey, that means you’re ads are working. As long as you’re getting sales, don’t worry about ticking off a few people.
In our next installment, we’re going to work our way into the solution of their problem.
