Running A SafeList | Article #206 : RUNNING YOUR OWN SAFELIST – PART 4
In this installment of running your own safelist, we’re going to focus on a few tips in order to get the most out of your safelist and the best response from your members.
Getting Exposure
The first thing you want to do, probably before you do anything else, is get some exposure for your safelist. There is no better way to do this than to submit your safelist to a safelist directory and submitter. Probably the best one around is IPostAd. The number of members that you will get through this service will be continuous on a daily basis. You should easily get 2 or 3 new members to your safelist each day, just by having your safelist listed with IPostAd. And the great part is, the listing won’t cost you anything at all. Just make sure you keep your member count updated at the directory.
Communicating With Your List
As with having your own e-zine or mailing list, your safelist members list is no different. You don’t want to badger these people with offers on a daily basis. You probably don’t want to send them more than 1 or 2 emails per week.
The one thing you do want to do, when they first sign up, is to send them a welcome email. In this you can mention one or two of your best offers that they might be interested in. This is your initial contact so you don’t want it to sound like a sales pitch. You want to be very subtle about how you make your pitch.
Managing Your List
This is the part that can be a little difficult for some people. There are several things you have to constantly check.
The first thing is any members who have not yet validated their safelist membership yet. If they haven’t done this, what you need to do is go to your members area and do a look up checking off the box that says “unconfirmed emails”. After you do this, there will be an option to resend the confirmation email to these people. Hopefully, some will respond and confirm their membership. This is the only way that you’ll be able to send them any sales messages.
The second thing you have to look out for is any support ticket that might have been submitted. Usually, these tickets will arrive in your registered email account so you will be notified. However, it is a good idea to check it manually each day.
Finally, you want to make sure that your safelist is not on any blacklist or your emails will not get out to your members.
