Programs To Avoid| Article #216 : . CLEVER SCHEMES NEED CLEVER DETECTION
In the last of this series of articles on scams and schemes, I want to paint an overall picture for you and hopefully get you to a point where you are able to tell the real gems from the snake oil salesmen. Once you can do that, you’ll have a better chance of not being taken in by one of these schemes.
No doubt about it, the con men are getting smarter and smarter everyday. One site I went to looked like a perfectly legit traffic generation site. They made me a guarantee that if I didn’t make at least $100,000 with their traffic generation method, I didn’t have to pay their fee, which was a percentage of the profits.
Then, I looked at what was required to get their service. It wasn’t free. In order for them to track your sales, in order to see if you had to pay them anything or not, you had to use THEIR site. And in order to do that, you had to pay for the site. It wasn’t a lot of money, but it was still a nice size fee.
And that’s when the bells started ringing in my head.
I realized that there was no way I was going to make $100,000 in sales in the short time that they said I would. I think it was either 60 or 90 days. And then I realized that this is how they make their money from this scheme.
Nobody actually makes this amount of money, so there is no claim on your earnings. But in the meantime, you’ve still paid your fee for their site in order to do tracking, which I think was like $50. So ultimately what happens is you’re out $50 because there is no way you’re making $100,000.
The site was eventually shut down. If you go there now you’ll see some BS about being taken offline and that they are going to regroup and change their structure. This is just a smoke screen for their illegal activities and outright fraud that this site perpetrated.
Another site looked like it was a legit site that taught about Forex trading. This is where you exchange foreign currency and make your profit off of the exchange rates. This is actually a legit business that many people are into. It is also very risky and you have to know what you’re doing.
But, the twist to this site was that you put your money into a fund and then after a certain number of days, in addition to any trading you did, you would get back a certain return on what you put in. Supposedly this fund was to be used to make currency purchases. Actually this was just a very cleverly disguised HYIP.
It took me a while to get down to the bottom of this site, but eventually I did. Ultimately, they were shut down as well.
It takes a lot of practice and research to be able to get to the bottom of the scams that are out there. It won’t happen overnight, but if you keep at it, do your homework, contact the companies, and inquire with the BBBOnline, you’ll eventually figure out if an opportunity is legit or not.
