Google Slap| Article #217 : GOOGLE SLAP – PART 1
Just mention the term “Google Slap” to somebody and it may be enough to make them take out a baseball bat and smack you over the top of the head with it. The Google Slap is one of the most talked about things on the Internet today. It has marketers screaming and sending a number of nasty emails to Google everyday. Few of those nasty emails ever get anywhere. The truth is, Google is out to get rid of what they consider undesirable web sites. They don’t care who gets squashed in the process. The number of casualties left in the wake of the Google Slap are in the thousands.
But why is Google slapping sites it thinks are bad?
Well, it comes down to what Google calls a “quality user experience.” In other words, when a user of Google searches for a keyword or keyword phrase, Google wants to make sure that the person using their site lands on a web page that is “relevant” to what the user is looking for. What is relevant? Well, that’s what people are trying to figure out. Google Adwords is more cryptic than an Agatha Christie murder mystery. Trying to get anything out of them that makes any sense at all is like trying to have an Egyptian translate Chinese to a Frenchman.
As a result, web sites are falling by the wayside. People who were making $1000 a day with Google Adwords suddenly dropped to making $10 a month, if that. Businesses were literally ruined. You could hear the screaming all around the world.
Well, it got to the point that several people decided that something had to be done. So they took their sites that used to be Google Adwords gold mines and started to tinker with them. They’d change one thing, wait for a response and then if that didn’t work, they’d try something else. Sometimes they’d put things back to the way they were. The trial and error was mind boggling and people were spending 14 hour days doing this. It became their life and their obsession. Nothing else mattered. Certainly this is understandable when you’ve gone from making a good living with Adwords to making close to nothing.
To make a long story short, several people finally figured this mess out. It took a lot of work but now, finally, people understand exactly what it is that Google wants. It’s not hard to do once you’ve gotten the secret. Yes, there is some work to be done, and in some cases where you are totally in Google’s doghouse, there are drastic measures that have to be taken.
Well, if you’ve been hit by the Google slap, fear not. The following articles in this series are going to tell you exactly what you’re going to have to do in order to get your web sites back up and running and pulling in profits again. All I ask is that you keep an open mind and before you think that any of these techniques won’t work, give them a try. I think you’ll be very pleased with the results.
See you next time.
