Google Slap| Article #220 : GOOGLE SLAP – PART 4
In this installment of the Google Slap article series, we’re going to begin our discussion of just how to get a high natural score for your landing page so that Google doesn’t hit you with their slap when you decide to start using Google Adwords. If you’ve already started and got slapped, don’t worry because there is a fix for that as well.
A high quality score for your natural listing means Google likes your site. So now we have to figure out what we have to do to get that to happen.
The first thing you have to understand is that Google puts more importance on your whole site than just the landing page alone. This is why if all you have is a landing page, there is a very good chance that you’ll be slapped.
Okay, just what is it that Google wants from a web site in order to give it a good score? Simple: Google wants sites that have lots of relevant content, lots of backlinks and SEO friendly.
That’s it. If you give Google JUST that much, there is no reason that you should ever be Google Slapped again.
But what exactly does the above mean?
Well, let’s start with lots of relevant content. What Google wants is a site that has a lot of articles on whatever subject your landing page is about. If you’re selling a cure for acne, then you better have a ton of articles on your site about acne. The more content you have, the better for the site. If you can’t write this content yourself, buy it, beg for it, do whatever you can to get it, because with no content, you have NO chance. That’s just the way it is.
What about the backlinks part? The way Google thinks is simple. If there are a number of other sites linking in to your site, then your site must be relevant to whatever it is you’re promoting. So this is another area that you’re going to have to concentrate on if you’re going to make Google happy with your site.
Now we come to SEO friendly. This isn’t so cut and dried and this is where a little explanation is in order.
In a previous article series I discussed SEO or search engine optimization. It was quite an extensive series with a number of articles. Well, like it or not, that series is what you are now going to have to go back to, read and execute if you’re going to give Google what they want. That means making sure all your meta tags are optimized, keywords, links, navigation, etc. Is it easy? No, it’s not easy. I never said that beating the Google Slap was going to be easy, but this is what you need to do. Once you’ve done it, you’ll never have to worry about it again.
In the next installment in this series, now that we know what our web site in general needs to look like in order for our landing page not to get slapped, we’re going to discuss just how to put together the landing page itself. As long as the web site itself is done properly, there is very little that has to be done with the landing page where people are directed to from the Adwords ad.
See you next time.
