PlanningArticle #237 :THE DEATH OF CLICKBANK
You’re a hot shot Clickbank affiliate. Your monthly affiliate sales from just one of the 20 Clickbank products you promote are around $10,000. Life is real good. Then, suddenly out of nowhere, the day comes when all your Clickbank sales have stopped. Clickbank has virtually died. Well, not quite. They’re still alive and well. Okay, they’re alive and maybe not so well. The point is, what happened to sales?
Well, this article may be a moot point by the time it gets read, as this is a very time sensitive topic. The reason is because Clickbank, at least at the time of this article, is going through some rough times due to outside forces. Without going into too much detail, it seems that one of the spyware detection companies is blocking Clickbank affiliate cookies from being written. This is effectively keeping Clickbank affiliates from getting credited for sales they make. Needless to say, this has got Clickbank affiliates really up in arms. Many have already jumped ship and refuse to sell Clickbank products until this problem is resolved.
For those of you who can’t see what this will ultimately do, should it continue, let me complete the picture.
As affiliates begin to jump ship, vendors will have fewer people selling their products. If the drop-off is big enough, many of these vendors may start to take their products out of the Clickbank marketplace and go elsewhere. PayDotCom may be a good choice or perhaps a new affiliate program will take over and become the new giant.
The point is, as the affiliates leave, and then ultimately the vendors, Clickbank could eventually become a ghost town. I’m not saying that this is definitely going to happen. I’m just saying that it is a definite possibility.
Having said this, Clickbank is currently working on the problem. They are exploring new tracking options as well as going after the spyware companies who are targeting their cookies.
But that’s not even the point of this whole article. The point is that nothing is certain. Not even Clickbank, which as of right now is the number 1 giant in the world of affiliate marketing. But as you can see, with the current problems that they are having, anything is possible. Nobody ever thought the day would come that AT&T would ever have to lay people off. Working for the phone company was the most secure job that you could have, especially since it was a monopoly. But things change.
So, if you’re a Clickbank affiliate, don’t throw all your eggs into one basket. Plan ahead. Look at other affiliate programs. If the vendors start disappearing, you won’t have many products to sell. If you’re a vendor, think of registering your product with other programs. You don’t want to wake up one day and find that there is nobody around to sell your product for you.
