Making A Plan | Article #258 :WHY MAKE A GAME PLAN AT ALL?
Good question. I mean certainly you’ve got enough smarts that you know what you want to do and know how to do it. If you’re a crackerjack software developer you know what people are going to want. If you’re a crackerjack website developer you know how to put up a sales page that sells. And, if you’re a crackerjack marketer, you know just how to write ads and promote your product or service.
So what’s the problem?
The problem is, very few people are experts in everything. I made it my business to become an expert at writing. But I knew nothing about what marketing mediums to use when I first started. I had to learn each one including the pros and cons that went along with them. And forget about how to design a sales page that converts. It’s not the same thing as making a website to impress your friends with a ton of bells and whistles.
My point is, because there was so much that I didn’t know, it wasn’t as intuitive for me as other things. When something is not intuitive, you’re not going to be aware of each and every aspect of that particular item.
For example, let’s take the matter of making a sales page. If this is something that is totally foreign to you then you’re not going to know that you need good strong header to first capture your prospect’s eye, a strong opening hook to get them to read on and so on. You won’t know these things so you’re going to need to learn them. So part of your game plan for putting together a sales page may be to look at other sales pages of some of the top sites and see how they’re put together. Doing this should give you plenty of ideas for creating your own sales page.
You can take the above example and apply it to just about any aspect of creating a product or marketing in general.
The one thing you have to understand about game plans is that they are not written in stone. Part of the reason for this is because over time, things change. The market changes; your prospects change; maybe even your own ideas change. With any game plan you have to be flexible. If you’re not willing to bend when the situation calls for it, you’re likely to work yourself into a corner that you’re unable to get out of. I have had to change plans during the course of projects several times. This series itself went through a number of changes before it became what you are looking at today.
The point is, game plans are important in order to get your thoughts in order and produce steps that could conceivably be followed by just about anybody. Why do you think they make ebooks? They are game plans in themselves. Some are more detailed than others, but in a sense, they are all game plans.
So whatever it is that you plan to do, no matter how simple, make a game plan. Write it out. Don’t leave out any details. Leave nothing to memory, because leaving out just one detail can mean the difference between the success or failure of the project.
Game plans. Gotta love ‘em.
