Butterfly Marketing | Article #263 :BUTTERFLY MARKETING – PART 5
In the previous installment of Butterfly Marketing, we completed the pre-launch phase. Please note that the information given is not complete but just some basic ideas. The actual Butterfly Marketing manuscript goes into a lot more detail. In this installment, we’ll start to focus on the actual launch itself.
There are things you want to be on the watch for when going into the actual launch. The reason for these watch points, as I call them, is because with any big launch, there is always the possibility that things can go wrong that would not normally go wrong with the normal launch of a product that didn’t have all the pre-launch buzz.
The first thing you want to be on the watch for is the possibility that your site could crash. If you get hammered with thousands of visitors all at once, this could very well happen. In this case, it is always good to get a dedicated server if you can afford it. If not, try to have a backup plan because the last thing you want is affiliates who are angry because they’re losing out on sales due to a down site.
Another problem you might run into is the suspension of your merchant account. Don’t laugh! It could happen. If your payment processor is used to having only so much activity from you and then all of a sudden you have hundreds of sales coming in, you could very well see your account shut down in a few hours. So contact your merchant account and let them know what’s about to take place.
Also, make sure that you have fully tested the purchase process for your site to make sure that there aren’t any bugs. The last thing you want is for somebody to go to make a purchase and it doesn’t go through. This can be very annoying to a prospective buyer.
When a new product comes out, there is usually a lot of buzz around the forums. Sometimes people who don’t even have the product will come to the forum simply to bash it and cause trouble. So you need to be on the lookout for these people and have your friends there to make posts in your favor. This will usually kill the ruckus.
Another thing you have to worry about is that you will have a lot of affiliates promoting your product. Some may not do it ethically and end up sending out spam. If this happens and your hosting company gets enough spam complaints, you could end up having your site shut down. So make sure you have a backup hosting account ready that you can transfer your DNS settings to.
Those are the basics of what to look out for during the actual launch. If the launch goes well, without a hitch, consider yourself lucky, because things do happen. However, if you’re prepared for these things, you can prevent them from really putting the kibosh on your launch.
In our next installment we’ll briefly go over the post-launch phase.
