Phsychology | Article #268 :DEALING WITH SPAM

In previous articles, we talked about how you shouldn’t send spam to other people on the Internet because it could easily get your ISP to shut your down quicker than you can say “Hold On!” But what about the spam that’s overrun your email box? You know which spam I’m talking about. The spam you seem to get on a daily basis and have no idea where it’s coming from. It’s gotten so bad that you can’t keep up with it. Well, this article contains a few tips that will hopefully reduce the amount of spam you have to deal with each day.

This is the first tip and it’s a good one. If you have your own website and have put up a contact page with an email address for people to contact you at, either take it down or have it cloaked. Why? Well, there’s these programs on the Internet that will spider your site and if by chance they find your page with your email address, they’ll harvest that address and give it out to every Tom, Dick and Harry on the Internet. It’s not legal but it happens.

Fortunately, there are programs you can get where you can actually cloak your email address. Simply run the program, type the email address you want cloaked in the little box and the program will generate a code that you can put on your web page. It’s that simple and you won’t have to worry about having your email address harvested ever again.

If you want to get a tool that does this that won’t cost you a dime, just visit this web site.

They’ve got a lot of neat and useful items that you’re going to love. The email cloaker is just one of them.

Another thing you can do to keep from getting a lot of spam is to be careful about who you send email to. If you get a suspicious email, do NOT reply to it. Many of these are sent just to see if the email address that’s there is a real one. If you reply to it or even send them a threatening email to stop sending you email, they will know that it is a real address and you’ll end up getting more spam than ever.

Another thing you can do to cut down on your spam is to be careful about what sites you go to and give your email address to. Read the terms there and make sure they say that your email will not be shared with anyone. Many sites, such as paid survey sites, will specifically say that you agree to receive offers. You have to be very careful of these.

Finally, you can get one of those services like Spamarrest that doesn’t allow any email to come through to you unless it is from a recognized source that you’ve allowed. The problem is, those things are a pain especially when many companies you do business with send automated replies, so I don’t personally recommend these services.

You can’t completely get rid of spam because the professional spammers have all the tools. But if you follow the above tips, you can greatly cut down on the amount of spam that you do get.
