$7 Secrets | Article #273 : $7 SECRETS – PART 1
This is a true story. A neighbor of mine had just bought a new refrigerator and put his old one out at the corner. He put a sign on it that read “Refrigerator – FREE, Please Take It”. Well, he woke up the next morning and oddly the refrigerator was still there. He figured maybe nobody had come by who really needed it. So he waited. Anyway, a week had gone by and the old refrigerator was still there. He couldn’t understand why nobody had taken it. After all, it was free, wasn’t it?
Finally, he sat down and did some thinking. There had to be some way to give this stupid refrigerator away. And that’s when it hit him. Maybe that was the problem that he was trying to give it away instead of simply trying to sell it.
So the next morning he got up real early and made a new sign. On it he put the following:
“Refrigerator - $10, Please enquire inside”
He then went in the house to do some work. Later that day he came out to take out some trash and the refrigerator was gone. Somebody had seen that it had a $10 price tag and so it must be worth something. Instead of offering to pay for it, they figured they’d get a $10 value for free and stole the refrigerator.
The irony is beyond belief. When he tried to give the refrigerator away he couldn’t. When he finally put a price tag on it, somebody came and stole it.
What does this have to do with $7 Secrets? Everything!
There is a psychology on the Internet among buyers that can’t be ignored. How many times have you gone to a site and saw a section that said free ebooks? Many times, right? How often do you actually go to the download area and get any of them? Not too often. But if you saw a book advertised for $7 and you thought it had some valuable information, you’d grab it in a second. Well, you’re not the only one.
And there lies the secret and the power of $7 Secrets.
To get into the whole psychology of why people behave this way is beyond the scope of this article and the articles to follow. What matters is that the concept works and works very well. Since the explosion of the $7 Secrets formula, sites taking advantage of this method of pricing have been popping up all over the place and with much success.
In our next article, we’re going to go through the steps of how to come up with a $7 Secret idea and how to milk it for everything you can. This might just very well be one of the most successful campaigns that you’ll ever run on the Internet.
See you next time.
