Social Bookmarking | Article #305 : SOCIAL BOOK MARKING – PART 5
In this installment of our series on social book marking, we’re going to go over some social book marking tools sites, which seems to be all the rage today. I mean let’s face it, just having a social book marking site isn’t enough. You need the latest tools to make this work. Like I’ve always said; anything to make a buck.
Well, the biggest and best social book marking service, hands down, is Wikilink. Don’t even bother going anywhere else. This site has just about everything you will need for your book marking adventures. We’ll review some of the features of Wikilink in this article.
The main features of this site are numerous, starting with your basic social book marking where users can share bookmarks with each other. But the fun doesn’t end there.
Wikilink gives you the ability to arrange bookmarks in what are called social folders going as deep as you want. For example, if you are into home business, you can have a main folder called home business. Under that you can have a subfolder called websites. Under that you can have several subfolders called web design, web hosting and so on. This is some really powerful stuff for organizing things.
The site has support for a number of protocols including HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, news, and telnet. It also has its own internal search engine.
In addition to being able to export to your local browser, you can also export to XML, HTML and XLink formats. This is a really nice additional feature.
A really neat feature is that if you have a site bookmarked into your browser, you can export that bookmark directly to Wikilink with just a couple of keystrokes.
And for those of you who are always complaining that everything on the Internet is in English only, Wikilink has support for English, French, German, Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Galeco, and Japanese. Now THAT is language support.
And if all that isn’t enough, you also get URL check (locally or using w3 link checker), Syndication File: RSS 1.00, RSS 2.00, Atom Feeds, Valid XHTML 1.0, CSS, and Others features including random links, popular links, spam filters and case rules.
Yes, Wikilink is one heck of a place and the social bookmarker’s paradise if you’re looking for a wealth of tools.
In all honestly, the support you get at Wikilink is second to none and you won’t find a better site around.
Now that we’ve filled you in on the best of the book marking sites, just what will all this do for you?
We’ll explore the benefits of social book marking in our next installment.
See you then.
