Networking| Article #309 :NO DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN NO
One of the biggest fears of Internet marketers is hearing the word no. This is especially true of people who do a lot of recruiting, or at least try. Say what you want about the MLM model being nothing but a pyramid scheme, but there are many people out there who look forward to the income that such a scheme can give them if they recruit hundreds of people into their downline.
Unfortunately, what stops many of these marketers is one word; no.
What they don’t understand is that the word no doesn’t always mean no. As a matter of fact, the word no actually has many meanings, and we’re going to explore some of them in this article. This should be a real eye opener for you.
Not Right Now – In some cases, the word no simply means, not right now. Not right now could be for many reasons. Maybe the person you were trying to recruit is involved in another business right now. Maybe they’ve got other things on their mind besides business. Believe it or not, people have other lives besides Internet marketing. You may have simply caught somebody at the wrong time. The word no doesn’t always mean no. Sometimes its means not right now.
Not Enough Info – Sometimes a person will say no to your offer because they simply do not have enough info to make an informed decision. Let’s face it, when most marketers present a company to another marketer, they don’t give them all the details for fear that they may say something that will drive the person away. Ultimately, what happens is that they don’t have enough information to make an informed decision at this time, so they say no.
Weighing Options – Another reason that people say no is that they are weighing their options. Let’s face it; most marketers are bombarded by a number of opportunities each day. Some of these may look very attractive to the person and they want to have the time to look over it before they make their decision. You may have simply contacted somebody who is in the process of weighing the options of several opportunities. His “no” is nothing more than having too much on his plate right now. After he has time to evaluate all his options, he may very well come back to YOUR opportunity, as long as you’ve left him a way to reach you.
You will notice that all of the above can really be summed up as no, not now. People don’t like to be forced into making a decision on the spot, even if they think it is a good opportunity. Remember, you’re trying to sell this person something and most likely that’s how it’s coming off. Usually, a more low key approach can crack through the “no not now” prospect and win him over to your side before you know it.
The point of all this is, marketers let the word no hold them back. They so fear rejection that they’d sooner not try at all. By understanding that the word is not a personal attack against you, and not taking it personally, you can go on with your business and approach the next prospect.
The people who can do this are the ones who are successful.
