Reviewing| Article #330 : REVIEWING PRODUCTS – PART 1
Another question I get asked a lot is this one. “How do I review a product without actually buying the product?”
When I get emails like this, I just have to shake my head in disgust. This is what gives Internet marketing a bad name; people reviewing products that they’ve never used or for that matter never even seen other than as a listing at Clickbank.
Now, you might be tempted to say, “But what if I want to sell a lot of products at Clickbank? I can’t buy them all. I’ll go broke.”
Well, first of all, selling a product and reviewing a product are two different things, though granted if you are going to sell something you better be able to say something about it to people if they have questions, unless of course you use the Adwords route. In that case, they just go straight to the sales page. You just put up your 3 line ad and you’re done with it. You’re not lying. You’re just promoting.
But reviewing a product is telling somebody your personal experience with the product. How can you do that unless you’ve actually used the product? Anything you say will only be a lie. So when people ask me how they get around this, I tell them that they can’t. Either buy the product and review it honestly or don’t buy it and don’t review it. There is no gray area here in my opinion. It’s black and white. You either do it right or don’t do it at all.
Now, having said that, if you are going to review a product, there are ways to do this so as to make the product review as effective as possible. Ultimately, you do want to make a sale from the review, unless the product is so awful that you would have a hard time recommending it to your worst enemy. In that case, I would review the product, warn people it is crap, but still give then a link to the site so they can check it out. Let them make the final decision.
So, just how do you go about reviewing a product so that the review is not only believable but also effective enough to maybe make you sale? Well, the most important thing about the review is to make sure you include some bad things about the item you’re reviewing. If that is making you scratch your head wondering if I’ve lost my mind, hear me out.
If a person reads a review on a product and every little thing about the review is just glowing with praise, the person reading the review is going to think that you’re just out to make a sale. But, if you include some negative things in your review, they’re more likely to believe in what you’re telling them. Certainly you shouldn’t have trouble finding something about the product you’re reviewing that you don’t like. Just dig hard enough and you’ll find it, even if it is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
In our next installment of reviews, we’re actually going to do a sample review so you can see how they should be done. This way you can use this review as a sample for the reviews that you will do. Believe it or not, writing reviews is one of the best ways to make sales.
See you next time.
