Reviewing| Article #332 : PROSPECTS ARE LIKE A BOX OF CHOCOLATES
In this article I want to discuss prospects. If the title has you a bit puzzled, that’s okay. When you’re finished reading this article you’ll understand exactly why prospects are like a box of chocolates. If you don’t, send me an email and I’ll send you a personal candy gram. Just don’t eat it all in one sitting.
Sit down and ask yourself this question. “What kind of person am I?” Am I honest? Am I hard working? Am I lazy? Am I smart? Am I not so smart?
The questions can go on and on, because let’s face it, we are all very different and each one of us has different qualities, likes and dislikes. Just because Coca Cola is the number 1 selling soft drink in the world doesn’t mean everybody drinks it. Some people don’t like it and then there are those who can’t drink it, either because they are diabetics and can’t drink anything with sugar, or they suffer from chronic gastritis and can’t drink it because of the carbonation. The point is, not everybody drinks the number 1 soft drink in the world.
There is a philosophy that was created by the late Charles M Shultz of “Peanuts” fame that really sums up what this is all leading to very nicely. I’ll use different examples than he would use but the concept is the same.
If somebody were to ask you to name the last 5 MVPs from Major League Baseball in the National League, the last 5 Cy Young Award Winners in the American League, the last 5 Super Bowl Champions in Professional Football and the last 5 Grammy Winners for Song Of The Year, could you do it? I know I can’t. And we’re not talking about some run of the mill people here. We’re talking about the cream of the crop, the best of the best. And yet we can’t remember them from Adam. Shows you how fleeting fame is.
The point is, we don’t remember our heroes of the past. We mostly live in the present, and what’s done is done. But, if somebody was to ask you to name, your 5 best friends who helped you through tough times, your 5 favorite teachers from high school and your 5 most inspiring people, you’d be able to name them in a flash. Why? Simply because these people meant something to you personally.
There is a lesson in this. The people who are the most influential in your lives are not the ones who are he most famous and have the most money. They are the people who care the most about you.
So what does this have to do with prospects being like a box of chocolates? Very simple. People, like a box of chocolates, are all different. They have their own contributions to make to society. The ones closest to you will make the most impression on you. So if in turn, you make impressions on people, not with how much money you’ve made or how famous you are as a marketer, but by being there for them and truly helping them, you will stand out in their minds. Use your unique personality to engrave yourself into their brains. I assure you that if you do this and truly make a difference in their lives, unlike the 5 last rookie of the year winners, who are long gone from their minds, they will remember who you are.
They may very well remember you for the rest of their lives.
