Reasons People Buy| Article #63 : WHY PEOPLE BUY THINGS – PART 7

In this installment of "Why People Buy Things" we're going to go over reason number 4, which is probably one of the easiest to cater to. It's called education.
Believe it or not, we don't live in a stupid society. People actually want to better themselves and their lives. One of the ways to do this is to get some education. Some people buy things for education to earn money and others do it simply because they love to learn. In either case, it is very easy to capitalize on potential customers who are making a purchase for the purpose of education.
One of the easiest ways to do this is with content on your web site. Let's just say that your site is one that sells web hosting. One thing you might want to do is to educate your potential customers to what to look for when choosing a hosting company. Give them a list of options to look for and what to be careful of. For example, warn them that there is no such thing as unlimited disk space and anyone who promises this is not being truthful.
The point is, by educating the person and making them realize things that they normally wouldn't have known or even know to ask, they might be more inclined to purchases web hosting from you because you took the time to educate them right on your site through the content that's there.
So, how do you present this content? Well, there are a couple of ways. The first is to have a page or number of pages containing a series of articles on web hosting. They can either be written by you or by a third party. Just make sure you get the rights to reprint them. Another way is through the actual ad on your site. In describing your web hosting service, you can include some educational tidbits that will probably nudge a potential customer towards making a purchase through you.
Another thing you can do is to give away educational items. There are lots of ebooks on the Internet on a variety of subjects that people allow you to give away. Yes, there is usually a catch to this, but in most cases it is nothing more than having to include their links in the books. This shouldn't matter to you, just as long as the books give your potential customers the education they need in order to either make their purchase through you, or if that was already done, to make the most of their purchase so they are satisfied with it.
Of course, if you use your imagination, you're likely to think of other ways to provide your customers with the education that they need in order to make their purchase through your site. If this is done correctly, you will probably have a customer for a very long time. People don't forget when they've been taken care of properly. So keep this in mind when you set out to educate your potential customers.
