Promoting Your E-zine| Article #84 :LISTING YOUR E-ZINE IN DIRECTORIES

The first thing you want to do after finishing up your e-zine is make it known to the outside world that it even exists, because let’s face it, if people don’t know that your e-zine is out there, you’re not going to get any subscribers.

So, how do we do this?

Well, the best and quickest way is to get your e-zine listed in as many e-zine directories as you can. This way, when a person who is looking for a particular e-zine does a look up under a certain category, they’ve got a decent shot of finding your e-zine. So that’s the first place you want to hit.

Another way of getting your e-zine out there is to frequent some forums for the niche where your e-zine would be most popular. Simply place a link in your signature that you have a new e-zine. Remember the 10 words that say buy series? New is one of those words. People love new e-zines, if for no other reason than to check them out. This is where you really have to impress them so that word of your e-zine gets around fast. Yes, forums have a great viral effect for spreading the word about things. Why? Because people at forums LOVE to talk. And if they have something to talk about, all the better.

But let’s get back to the subject of e-zine directories, because that’s where you want to concentrate most of your efforts.

So, how exactly do you go about submitting your e-zine to a directory and getting it listed? Well, what follows is a step by step approach. I hope it helps.

Step 1 – Go to any search engine (I prefer Google) and Do a search for "ezine directories" There are far too many to list here.

Step 2 - Fill out the online application form at each ezine directory. They will all be a little different, but they will ask for the same basic information, such as name of ezine, frequency of publication, publisher's name and contact information and opt-in procedures. Some may ask if you accept advertising or not. Fill out all the information.

Step 3 - Some directories may have a wait period between the time you sign up and the time you are allowed to submit your ezine. So wait to hear from them after your submit your e-zine. You will also be notified as to whether or not your e-zine is even accepted. In most cases they are, but you can never be 100% certain.

Step 4 - Go to the submission page of the ezine directory and list your ezine. This will include a description of your ezine and your intended audience. Spare no details. Be very clear about what your focus is. You want people to know exactly what your e-zine is about. Being vague about this is not going to get you many subscribers.

Step 5 - If you get an e-mail confirmation after filling out your intial application, be sure to click on the confirmation link. You may not be allowed to list your ezine until you do. So many people fail to do this. So make sure you have the directory white listed in your email account or you may not even get the confirmation.

And that’s it. After that, you should start seeing some subscribers to your e-zine, slowly at first, but picking up as time goes on.

If this seems like a tedious and slow process, it is. But it is a crucial one if you’re going to let the outside world know that you have an e-zine.

So don’t skip the process. You’ll thank me for this later on.
